Matthew has experience in a wide range of litigation work. His cases range from contractual disagreements to fraud claims and he has a particular interest in intellectual property disputes including trade mark infringement and passing off.
Matthew has acted for a wide variety of individuals, SMEs and large corporates in various market sectors.
Recent experience:
- Assisting on a case in which the firm acted for 10 liquidated companies and their liquidators in claims to recover ca. £82m from RBS Plc (now NatWest Markets Plc) and Mercuria Energy Europe Trading Ltd for dishonest assistance & fraudulent trading. This case is in Financial List (FL-2016-000017) and after a 6 week trial in the Summer Term 2018, judgment is awaited.
- Acting for a niche car manufacturer to protect its brand against attack in the UK, EU and Internationally. This case involved dealing with various legal actions in multiple jurisdictions and included issuing claims in the UK for breach of trust and winding-up a company in Hong Kong.
- Acting for a well-known London market in relation to the opening of a competing retail unit infringing its trade marks.
